MICE

House MouseThe House Mouse is the most common of the mice species to become a pest of homes. It:

  • is light brown to black, with a lighter colored underbelly.
  • has short hair on its 2-3 inch long body.
  • has a scaly tail that is longer than its body.
  • has large ears and small, black eyes.

The Problems of Mice: Damage and Disease

  • The House Mouse can breed rapidly and adapt to changing conditions, thus a single pair of mice can quickly grow into an infestation.
  • Mice have no bladder control, so they continually excrete droplets of urine and feces as they roam about your house.
  • They can carry fleas, mites, ticks and lice into your home – and can get in through holes as small as 1/4 inch.
  • Mice will eat and contaminate your food, gnaw on clothing, furniture, books – or even the structure itself.
  • Their gnawing on electrical wires can cause fires or operational failure of appliances.
  • They carry or cause disease, such as Salmonella food poisoning.

Pioneer Pest Management Mouse Control

  • We begin with a thorough inspection to determine where mice are coming in, what is attracting them, and where they are living and breeding.
  • We develop a custom control program, focusing first on sanitation, exclusion, and non-chemical control, such as traps and non-lethal baits.
  • We then integrate rodenticides if needed, with a priority on the protection of your family and pets.
  • We provide a written report, including recommendations for sanitation and structural repairs to help prevent future occurrence.

The Problems of Rats: Damage and Disease

  • Because they are excellent climbers, they can enter homes through holes that are low or high
  • They can squeeze through holes as small as 1/2 inch.
  • Rats will feed on human and pet foods, and contaminate the foods and containers with urine and feces.
  • Rats can carry and spread disease such as plague, typhus, leptospirosis, salmonellosis and rat-bite fever.
  • They will tear up wall and ceiling insulation for their nesting, and their gnawing will damage structures, furniture, and wiring.
  • Norway rat burrowing can also damage building foundations.
